Carolinian Forest Festival Helps Connect Local Students to Nature

Aylmer – More than 2,000 grades 6 and 7 students from 23 schools across the Thames Valley School Board and London District Catholic School Board will be participating in the Carolinian Forest Festival at Springwater Conservation Area next week.

“The Festival is about giving youth the chance to step outside the classroom and experience the forest firsthand,” says Festival Coordinator Betsy McClure. “Spending time in nature helps students build a deeper understanding of the environment while fostering a lifelong connection to the health of our trees and forests.”

During the Festival, students will explore forest ecosystems, learn about biodiversity and species at risk, and understand the impact of climate change through 37 hands-on activities, all aligned with the Ontario curriculum. The Festival is powered by the dedications of volunteers from conservation authorities, environmental organizations, and over 120 high school students.

The Carolinian Forest Festival is a fully self-funded initiative, generously supported by the Thames Valley District School Board, London District Catholic School Board, the Elgin Stewardship Council, and other community organizations and businesses.
