Elgin County Woodlands Conservation By-Law
The Elgin County Woodlands Conservation By-law is intended, “to restrict and regulate the destruction of trees by cutting, burning, bulldozing, application of chemicals or other means.” All woodlot owners must be aware of the By-law. A woodlot is considered anything greater in size than one half (½ ) acre (0.2 hectares). The Elgin County Tree Commissioner is an appointed official of the County of Elgin. It is the Tree Commissioner’s responsibility to ensure that the cutting of trees in Elgin County woodlots is consistent with the goals set out in the Elgin County Woodlands Conservation By-law.
