St. Thomas – What better way to say goodbye to winter than to order trees to green your property. Kettle Creek Conservation Authority (KCCA) is offering two programs for watershed landowners to plant trees.
KCCA continues to offer trees for $0.25/seedling to watershed landowners planting more than 200 trees. Additional discounts may be available for larger plantings, and if 750 trees or more are purchased, the cost covers planting by KCCA staff and weed control.
Returning in 2015 is the Greening Communities program. This program is open to landowners in Central Elgin, St. Thomas and Malahide who want to plant trees but do not have enough area on their property to plant 200 trees. Landowners can purchase a minimum of 20 seedlings in a variety of native species.
“The subsidized prices offered through both programs provide an attractive opportunity for landowners,” says Betsy McClure, KCCA’s stewardship program supervisor. “Landowners can also benefit from the free advice of conservation authority staff on what trees are best suited for their lands.”
Landowners interested in planting trees this spring should contact KCCA as soon as possible as trees and species are offered on a first come, first served basis.
