KCCA Lifts Low Water Advisory

  • by

St. Thomas – The Kettle Creek Conservation Authority has lifted the Low Water Advisory as conditions return to normal across the watershed.

On September 8, 2025, the watershed entered a Level 1 Low Water Condition after a record-breaking dry summer and fall. A Level 1 Low Water Advisory is the first of three level in the Ontario Low Water Response Program, indicating lower than 70% of normal stream flows or less than 80% of average precipitation.

“With the passing of the spring freshet, combined with several recent intense rain events over the past month, conditions have supported the recovery of water levels across the watershed,” says Jennifer Dow, KCCA’s Water Resources Supervisor.

KCCA uses a network of precipitation and stream gauges to determine Low Water Conditions throughout the watershed. Watershed conditions are analyzed on a monthly basis. There are three levels of low water conditions (Levels 1, 2 and 3) that are based on thresholds linked to precipitation records and stream flow monitoring data, together with watershed observations.

KCCA will continue to monitor local water levels and provide updates as necessary.
