KCCA Celebrates Dan Patterson Trail Launch

News Release
For Immediate Release

St. Thomas – Kettle Creek Conservation Authority (KCCA) is celebrating the launch of the Dan Patterson Trail on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. Local residents are invited to join staff for a first look at the newly restored Old Growth Trail.

“The re-opening of the Dan Patterson Trail is another way for our community to get out in nature and explore,” says Marianne Levogiannis, public relations supervisor for KCCA, “We want to provide free opportunities that will help to improve the quality of life for our community. The reopening of the Dan Patterson Trail is a great example of that pursuit.”

With the assistance of a sustainable trail builder, KCCA has restored a pre-existing trail once closed due to erosion and hazard trees. Throughout the restoration project, staff and volunteers have gained essential skills and knowledge on trail maintenance that can be applied to other KCCA trails.

“We have installed new educational signage throughout the trail for our community to learn more about the watershed and connect with nature,” says Levogiannis. The restoration project also incorporates unique features that will offer an enhanced hiking experience for trail users. Attendees at the launch will be among the first to see these features, including a trail connection located under Highbury avenue.

Copies of the renewed KCCA Trail Guide will also be available for distribution at the launch. The new guides feature all of KCCA’s hiking trails and the various opportunities offered at the conservation areas.

The restoration project is made possible from the generous support of our partners, TD Friends of the Environment, Elgin St. Thomas Community Foundation and the Kettle Creek Environmental Trust.
