Southwold – The much-anticipated grand opening of Deer Ridge Conservation Area, a 46-acre forested property generously donated by Ted and Duggie Gill, will take place on September 12th at 2:30 p.m. Members of the public are invited to gather at the entrance to the Conservation Area located at 147 Glengariff Drive in Talbotville.
“We are thrilled to have Deer Ridge open for public use,” said Ted Gill. “We’ve enjoyed it for many years – and now we can share its beauty with the community.”
While KCCA owns and maintains 1,305 acres of property from London to Port Stanley, this is the Authority’s first conservation area in Southwold Township.
KCCA received financial support from Environment and Climate Change Canada’s “Canada Nature Fund” for costs related to the initial acquisition. Green Lane Community Trust Fund also contributed funds towards the development of a 1.7 kilometer trail, signage, seating areas and the control of invasive species on the property.
The grand opening event will feature speeches from key stakeholders, guided hikes, and an opportunity to learn more about the ecological significance of Deer Ridge Conservation Area. Attendees are reminded that the event is rain or shine. Closed toed walking shoes and appropriate clothing is recommended.
