The Elgin County Woodlands Conservation By-law is intended, “to restrict and regulate the destruction of trees by cutting, burning, bulldozing, application of chemicals or other means.” All woodlot owners must be aware of the By-law. A woodlot is considered anything greater in size than one half (½ ) acre (0.2 hectares). The Elgin County Tree Commissioner is an appointed official of the County of Elgin.
