Based on the concept of the highly successful Children’s Water Festival, the Carolinian Forest Festival was developed to provide a unique opportunity for grade 6 and 7 students to complement their classroom learning.
The Festival was developed to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of the Carolinian Life Zone through interactive learning linked to the Ontario Curriculum. The goal of the Festival is to allow students to connect and relate to their local natural environment while motivating behavioural changes and encouraging students to become good land stewards.
The activities were developed around five themes:
• Forest Ecosystems and Interactions;
• Biodiversity and Species at Risk;
• Climate Change;
• Forest Resources, and
• Stewardship and Conservation.
