Carolinian Forest Festival Helps Connect Local Students to Nature

Aylmer – Over 2,000 grades 6 and 7 students from 23 schools across the Thames Valley School Board and London District Catholic School Board will be participating in the Carolinian Forest Festival at Springwater Conservation Area next week.

“The goal of the Festival is to help students discover the value and importance of the Carolinian Life Zone and our local forests, says Festival Coordinator Betsy McClure.  “It is well established that human health and well-being are closely linked to the health of our trees and forests. This Festival offers students a chance to explore the natural wonders right in their own backyard.”

During the Festival, students will explore the forest ecosystem at Springwater, learn about biodiversity and species at risk, and understand the impact of climate change through 37 hands-on activities, all aligned with the Ontario curriculum. The event relies on the support of volunteers from conservation authorities, environmental organizations, and over 150 high school students.

The Festival is fully self-funded and is generously supported by the Thames Valley District School Board, London District Catholic School Board, Elgin Stewardship Council and many other community organizations and businesses.
