Lake Whittaker, and Dalewood Campgrounds Open for the 2019 Season
For immediate release
St. Thomas – Lake Whittaker (Harrietsville), and Dalewood (St. Thomas) Conservation Areas officially open on Wednesday, May 1 at 9:00 a.m. for the camping and recreational season.
“Both Lake Whittaker and Dalewood offer large treed lots with a number of amenities including canoe and kayak rentals, swimming pools and hiking trails,” says Marianne Levogiannis, KCCA’s public relations supervisor. “We offer a great outdoor experience – close to home.”
New In 2019: Outdoor Smoking Policy
KCCA is reminding all campers that a new Outdoor Smoking Policy takes effect at both Lake Whittaker and Dalewood Conservation Area on May 1, 2019. Smoking will be limited to registered campsites and designated areas. Maps showing the designated smoking areas are available online and in the 2019 Visitors Guide. KCCA defines smoking and vaping as outlined in the Smoke Free Ontario Act. “Smoking” means smoking (inhaling and exhaling) or holding lighted tobacco or cannabis (medical or recreational). “Vaping” means inhaling or exhaling vapour from an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) or holding an activated e-cigarette, whether or not the vapour contains nicotine.
A number of special events are planned at both campgrounds throughout the summer. Most of these programs are included during your stay or with the purchase of a day pass. KCCA and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will be hosting the popular Learn to Fish workshop on July 13 at Dalewood and July 14 at Lake Whittaker. Learn to Fish introduces children, teenagers and adults to fishing. This free two-hour program combines a training session followed by an hour of hands-on fishing. Fishing rods, life jackets, sunglasses and licenses are provided. Spots are limited and registration is required.
