Stewardship

Upper Kettle StrategyThe majority of land in the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority (KCCA) watershed is privately owned. Therefore, it is important to build relationships with landowners and community groups to ensure the long-term protection of our natural resources.

Community Based Watershed Strategies have been developed for Kettle Creek’s three sub-watersheds: Dodd Creek, Upper Kettle Creek and Lower Kettle Creek. The goal of the watershed strategies is to build partnerships with community stakeholders to identify local environmental concerns and develop action plans to address these issues.

KCCA staff are currently working with landowners and community groups within each subwatershed to develop “on the ground” activities in priority areas. Projects may include wetland creation, fencing of livestock from watercourses, and erosion control measures.

Successful implementation of projects is dependent on landowners becoming involved. Once a site and project is identified KCCA staff can work to find the necessary funds to complete the project.
